International Workers’ Day

The International Workers’ Day is observed every year, and the Alliance marks it because it touches the work of care: who gives it, who receives it, and what it costs the people who do it unpaid.

Why it matters for care

Care workers are workers: domestic workers, nursing aides, childminders and community health promoters, most of them without a contract, a pension or a union. The day is about them as much as about anyone on a factory floor.

How the Alliance marks the day

• A briefing for policymakers on the care dimension of the day’s theme.
• A statement from the secretariat, signed by the member organisations working on the theme.
• An online conversation with members from three regions, recorded and shared afterwards.

Take part

Members are invited to mark the day in their own channels and to tell the secretariat what they did; it is collected for the members’ newsletter. Materials are available in English and Spanish a week ahead.
