International Migrants Day

The International Migrants Day is observed every year, and the Alliance marks it because it touches the work of care: who gives it, who receives it, and what it costs the people who do it unpaid.

Why it matters for care

Global care chains run on migration: women leave their own families to care for others’, and the care they leave behind falls to someone else. The day is about the rights of the workers those chains depend on.

How the Alliance marks the day

• A call for stories from members: what the day looks like in their country and in their work.
• A briefing for policymakers on the care dimension of the day’s theme.
• A statement from the secretariat, signed by the member organisations working on the theme.

Take part

Members are invited to mark the day in their own channels and to tell the secretariat what they did; it is collected for the members’ newsletter. Materials are available in English and Spanish a week ahead.
