International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed every year, and the Alliance marks it because it touches the work of care: who gives it, who receives it, and what it costs the people who do it unpaid.

Why it matters for care

Care is measured, modelled and argued over with data, and the people who gather it are still mostly not women. The day is a reminder that time-use surveys, care satellite accounts and the evidence behind every care policy depend on who gets to do the science.

How the Alliance marks the day

• A statement from the secretariat, signed by the member organisations working on the theme.
• An online conversation with members from three regions, recorded and shared afterwards.
• A set of facts and figures on the day’s theme and care, for members to use in their own channels.

Take part

Members are invited to mark the day in their own channels and to tell the secretariat what they did; it is collected for the members’ newsletter. Materials are available in English and Spanish a week ahead.
