International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace is observed every year, and the Alliance marks it because it touches the work of care: who gives it, who receives it, and what it costs the people who do it unpaid.

Why it matters for care

Conflict multiplies care: the injured, the displaced and the bereaved are cared for by families who have lost everything else. The day is a reminder that rebuilding care systems is part of rebuilding peace.

How the Alliance marks the day

• A set of facts and figures on the day’s theme and care, for members to use in their own channels.
• A call for stories from members: what the day looks like in their country and in their work.
• A briefing for policymakers on the care dimension of the day’s theme.

Take part

Members are invited to mark the day in their own channels and to tell the secretariat what they did; it is collected for the members’ newsletter. Materials are available in English and Spanish a week ahead.
