International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed every year, and the Alliance marks it because it touches the work of care: who gives it, who receives it, and what it costs the people who do it unpaid.

Why it matters for care

Violence and care are bound together: women trapped in violent homes are often trapped by the care they owe to children and dependants. Care services that let women leave are part of the answer.

How the Alliance marks the day

• A statement from the secretariat, signed by the member organisations working on the theme.
• An online conversation with members from three regions, recorded and shared afterwards.
• A set of facts and figures on the day’s theme and care, for members to use in their own channels.

Take part

Members are invited to mark the day in their own channels and to tell the secretariat what they did; it is collected for the members’ newsletter. Materials are available in English and Spanish a week ahead.
